Where to Shop in Malaga?

If you’re shopping in Malaga, here’s your guide to the streets in this lovely holiday city where you can find the best shops. Malaga boasts several excellent shopping streets, all located in the Centro, the old town rising from the harbor. You’ll find both the large pedestrian street Calle Larios and the parallel street Calle Nueva. Additionally, there are many charming streets with artisanal crafts and unique souvenirs that you won’t find anywhere else.

Malaga is a shopping paradise, with several large shopping centers and a massive outlet mall. In other words, the city is a dream for those who love to shop. So, don’t fill your suitcase to the brim at home – Malaga is sure to offer something you can’t live without!

Calle Larios in Malaga

Let’s start on Calle Larios, Malaga’s famous shopping street. Here, tourists from all over the world gather in a delightful mix of ice cream shops, souvenir stalls, and major chain stores.

Calle Larios is definitely a must-visit during your holiday in Malaga. The atmosphere is lively and fun, and there’s always something happening. Be sure to explore the small side streets as well, where you’ll find many interesting shops. Also, visit Calle Nueva, a parallel street to Calle Larios, which has just as many great shops.

The Smaller Pedestrian Streets

The further north you go, the cozier it becomes. After passing Plaza de la Constitución, you’ll find yourself surrounded by restaurants and local shops. It’s a charming area!

Feel free to continue to Calle Andrés Pérez, one of the narrow streets, which is full of artisanal crafts and local shops. From here and throughout the southwest area, you’ll find a network of small streets with quirky stores. Check out Calle Especería and Calle San Juan, for example.

Food Markets in Malaga

Head south, still within the city center, and you’ll reach the city’s main food market, Mercado Central de Atarazanas. The large glass mosaics on the facade will confirm that you’ve arrived at the right place. Inside, you’ll find a treasure trove of fruits and vegetables, delicious ham, and fresh fish. It’s a popular spot for lunch, so arrive early if you want to grab a table.

Less touristy and more local is Mercado de Salamanca in the northern end of Centro, close to the Guadalmedina River. Come early in the morning to experience the authentic Spanish market atmosphere!

Muelle Uno

Many tourists keep returning to Malaga again and again because they fall in love with Muelle Uno, the long pier extending out from Malaga’s coast. When the summer sun is at its peak in Malaga, there’s no better place than out here, under an umbrella with a cold mojito!

As evening falls, you can shop in one of the many stores along the harbor promenade, or stay in a lounge chair at the bar while enjoying the view of the large yachts docking at sunset.

Shopping Centers in Malaga

Malaga has several large shopping centers in the city center. Visit Centro Comercial Larios Centro right by Jardines Picasso or El Corte Inglés Málaga on Av. de Andalucía. Malaga is also a hub for train traffic across Andalusia, and at the city’s large train station, you’ll find a massive shopping center to pass the time before your next train. You’ll find Vialia Centro Comercial just south of Larios Centro.

Further south near the airport is the outlet town Plaza Mayor. Here you’ll find IKEA, a huge cinema, an outlet center with over 100 brands, and plenty of restaurants. The train runs directly from Malaga’s main station, Málaga María Zambrano, to the Plaza Mayor stop. It takes 12 minutes and costs a couple of euros (2023). Opening Hours in Malaga

Most shops in Malaga open from 9 or 10 AM and close for lunch at 1:30 PM. After siesta, they reopen from 5 PM until 8 PM. Large shopping centers are open from 10 AM to 10 PM, Monday to Saturday. On Sundays, only souvenir shops in tourist areas and small kiosks remain open.

A Lovely Hotel in Malaga

Malaga has a plethora of hotels, which can make it a bit overwhelming to decide where to stay. We found a delightful place in Centro right by the Guadalmedina River, and you can always find your way back! There are many other hotels in this area, but we wanted to treat ourselves and stayed at the fantastic Vincci Selección Posada del Patio.

There are certainly cheaper hotels in Malaga, but Posada del Patio, as it is also called, is just a bit more luxurious. The rooms are so beautifully decorated that you’ll want to stay in bed all day. But that won’t happen! The breakfast buffet is exquisite, filled with both small and large delicacies. You can also order freshly cooked eggs, pancakes, and other delicious dishes if you desire.

The hotel is located right on the edge of the charming pedestrian streets. But the hotel also has its own pool on the rooftop terrace – so what should you choose? Rune, being a specialist in great gifts, had found another hotel with its own Roman ruins in the basement! Here you can find the walls of the old Roman port and a well-preserved well. Someone was quite pleased there, and you know your partner well!
