We love to eat well and restaurant visits are usually a big part of our vacations. We do not necessarily eat expensive, but always locally and with local ingredients. We are also always on the hunt for the great dining experiences and prefer to eat something we have never tasted before.

Some of the Best restaurants in Madrid

Local mushrooms on El Cisne Azul

From the outside, it looks like a cheap kebab snack, but make no mistake! El Cisne Azul Madrid is a favorite among the locals and here you also eat really well. The specialty is mushrooms from the surrounding mountains. There are many kinds to choose from and in addition steak, mussels and many other delicacies.

The restaurant is really popular, and if you haven’t booked a table, you can instead walk a bit further down the hill. A couple of houses away is the sister restaurant, where you also eat well.

Crispy cod tapas at Casa Labra

The famous tavern Casa Labra is always packed with people, and you may have to wait to get a table. At Casa Labra you can order the traditional tajadas de bacalao, small, crispy cod pieces in a heavenly breading. Bacalao goes really well with manchego cheese and a glass of sherry.

Something for everyone at the Mercado San Anton

If you can’t agree on where to have lunch, visit one of the city’s food markets, like Mercado San Antón. On the first floor there is a large selection of delicious food stalls. Once you have had your lunch, you can explore the many delicacies on the ground floor and maybe buy a souvenir.

Calle Cava Baja – the great restaurants street

Especially in the area around La Latina there are many great restaurants and small tapas bars! If you walk down Calle Cava Baja, you will have a hard time choosing! But do try to get a table at the hip tapas bar El Tempranillo. Here you get the most delicious Iberico jamon. While eating, you can enjoy the sight of the huge wine rack that covers the entire back wall.

The best chorrus in Madrid!

If you love the crispy churros, then the classic Chocolatería San Ginés can be recommended. Here you get freshly made churros in beautiful surroundings. San Ginés has been in existence since 1894, and not much has changed in the decor since the opening. Order a cup of chocolate for dipping the churros in, or eat them as they are with a little sugar.

Madrid is one of the most expensive cities to stay in when traveling to Spain. As in other big cities, hotel prices are higher in the city center, and in Madrid this especially gos for the museum and theater district. In a city like Madrid, where it can get hot in the summer, it is nice to be able to cool off in the swimming pool.
