ATTRACTIONS IN FLENSBURG

A walk along the fjord is a must! If you visit the city during the summer months, you can board one of the many tour boats and see the city from the water side. Also visit the working shipyard, which builds and exhibits replicas of historic sailing cargo ships and boats from the 18th and 19th centuries. Read more here: Museumswerft Flensburg.

The town has always been a center of the extensive Baltic Sea trade, both on land where several important trade routes met – Hærvejen or Ochsenweg, which ran from north to south, and the east-west-going road between Angel and northern Friesland – and also on water, due to the very large occurrences of herring in the fjord.

GOOD RESTAURANTS IN FLENSBURG

Flensburg offers many great restaurants. Do visit the cozy brewery, Hansens Brauerei, which offers classic North German dishes, such as Grillhaxe and Sauerkraut. Between the large, polished boilers at the brewery there is a festive atmosphere, and you can order the famous “1 meter beer”.

The next morning offers brunch in the beautiful Marien-Café, the place with the 1000 coffee pots. You have to count them yourself, but there are a lot of coffee pots! However, visit the place for the excellent breakfast or the great cakes. It is recommended to book a table as the place is very well visited.
