There are many interesting sights in Aarhus waiting to be visited. It is a good idea to plan at least some of the trip from home, as there is a lot to see in Aarhus. DEN GAMLE BY – THE OLD TOWN

In Den Gamle By you can walk around the in the past. Many houses and farms, which would otherwise have been victims of the ravages of time, have been torn down stone by stone and rebuilt here in the Old Town. Visit the fine, historic buildings, the beautiful city gardens, the working workshops, the shops and the remarkable Danish provincial town from the 1970s.

AARHUS DOMKIRKE – AARHUS CATHEDRAL

Aarhus Domkirke can be found at Store Torv in the center of the city. The church was completed in the 14th century and is the longest church in Denmark. Visit the church for the unique frescoes and the breathtaking views from the Cathedral Tower.

At the ARoS Art Museum, you also get a unique view of the city. Through the colorful windows in Olafur Elliasson’s Your rainbow panorama, there is a view of Aarhus as far as the eye can see. Also explore the changing exhibits or see the giant boy, Boy, created by Ron Mueck.

AARHUS FESTUGE

Try to plan your visit in Aarhus during Aarhus Festuge. The festival always starts on the last Friday in August, and the culture festival offers an impressive program. During the week there are free outdoor concerts, theater shows and street food, and the whole city buzzes with life. Aarhus is also called ‘City of Smiles’, and during the festival week, the city shows itself from its most beautiful side.

MOMU, MOESGAARD MUSEUM

MOMU or Moesgaard Museum contains one of Denmark’s greatest treasures from antiquity. At MOMU you will find Grauballemanden. The museum was rebuilt in 2014 and today offers archeological and ethnographic exhibitions in the award-winning exhibition buildings. Also take a walk around the Stave Church and the Viking houses and continue along Oldtidsstien down to Skovmøllen, which serves the best hot cocoa and freshly baked buns.

BEACHEAS AND POOLS IN AARHUS

If you visit Aarhus during the summer holidays, take a swim at Den Permanente, the bath house near the forest and the beach below Riis Skov. In the winter you can also visit the old bathing establishment Spanien, where in addition to a swim you can enjoy the beautiful decor. Many of the fine details from the opening in 1933 are still preserved.

MARSELISBORG PALACE

Marselisborg Palace is located by the Memorial Park in the southern part of the city. The Palace is the summer residence of the Danish Queen HKH Margrethe, and there is a change of guard with the Royal Life Guards at 12 pm during the periods when the Queen is staying at the palace. When the Queen is not at the palace, the park is open to visitors.

ÅEN

End the day with a visit to the small river, Åen, as it is just called among the locals. Start at Magasin and enjoy the atmosphere of the many cafés, restaurants and bars, while strolling along the now exposed river. The river is the city’s gathering point, and this is where you really sense the nerve of the city.
