WHERE TO EAT IN GRAN CANARIA?

It has been a wonderful day in the sun, the energy has been spent on the beach or in the beautiful mountains and now everyone is hungry. There are many good restaurants in Gran Canaria where you can satisfy your hunger – but where should you go?

Despite the island’s exquisite ingredients and a sea full of the most delicious fish, it’s easy to get caught in one of the tourist traps. Especially the south coast is full of Italian (!?!) restaurants serving pizza, checken nuggets and fish fingers. So before you sit down, please check what the other guests already sitting at the tables are are eating. It may very well be canned meatballs and pre-cooked dishes that have just been in the microwave.

So where do you go if you want to eat well in Gran Canaria? Here comes some recommendations really nice restaurants on the beautiful island. Please click on the name of the restaurant to go to their website.

GREAT RESTAURANTS IN GRAN CANARIA

COFRADIA DE PESCADORES DE ARGUINEGUÍN

This is where the locals eat! In Arguineguín you follow the harbor promenade all the way around until you come to a blue fence. Do not be intimidated by the fact that it looks like a place you are not allowed to enter and that the restaurant looks dark and closed, but continue to the island’s best restaurant, Cofradia De Pescadores De Arguineguín. Here you get fish that has just been landed in the fishing port on the other side of the fence. The fish is cooked to perfection and there is plenty to choose from. The prices are low, and table reservations are usually not required.

I LOVE FOOD

Another little gem in Arguineguín is the small tapas bar, I love food. Here you get squid croquetas, colored black by ink, or you can just enjoy a glass of lovely wine standing on the sidewalk while you watch the chef’s gastronomic creations in the microscopic kitchen.

CASITO MEDITERRANEO

In Mogan, this gem lies right next to the harbor edge. Casito Mediterraneo is easy to overlook with the many signs, all offering Italian specialties. But here delicious food is served with local ingredients, and you get a main course for €20 – €25. Embark on the fresh fish, lamb or chicken in lime, because everything is just really good. Remember to book a table.

TASTE MESÓN

Taste mesón is a concept restaurant where taste is everything. Small portions are served here, so you can taste 3 or 4 of the delicious dishes: beef jaws, black-footed pigs, goat cheese, fresh prawns, chocolate cake… The food is a bit expensive, but the restaurant can really be recommended for couples or for special occasions to be celebrated!

Las Villas de Amadores - SittingUnderAPalmTree

The most beautiful view from Las Villas de Amadores

LA JAMONERIA DE LA QUINTA

If you’re a big fan of Spanish ham, jamon, stop by La Jamoneria de La Quinta if you’re in Las Palmas anyway. Also try the snack plate with 8 or 12 pieces, where you, among other things, get to taste a shrimp salad, blood sausage and potato omelette.

FIND A GREAT HOTEL IN GRAN CANARIA

A GREAT APARTMENT HOTEL

We stayed at Las Villas de Amadores, an apartment hotel in the small coastal town of Amadores. We had a large apartment with a huge terrace, kitchen, living room and two bedrooms. The hotel has its own pool, bar and mini market. The place is neat and clean and the staff sweet and helpful.

Amadores was chosen because it is located outside the noisy tourist towns, Playa del Inglés and Maspalomas, and up the coast with the most beautiful sandy beach in Amadores. The hotel is located on the mountain side and it is quiet around the clock. A little further up the mountain is a Spar grocery store and a complex of restaurants and bars.
