BEST DISTRICTS AND AREAS IN BERLIN

Where are you going to stay in Berlin on holiday? Here you get an overview of the different areas in Berlin and where it is good to live. At the bottom of the article you can see recommendations on good hotels, all of which can be booked directly through Booking.com.

WHERE TO LIVE IN BERLIN?

Berlin does not have an actual center in the same way as many other cities. The city consists of various smaller towns, which at one time have grown together, becoming a big city, but which still each have their own character.

Many hotels are located around the Tiergarten as well as in Kreuzberg, Friedrichshain and Prenzlauerberg. Wherever you choose to stay, you will often find a ubahn station just around the corner that can in no time lead you to Checkpoint Charlie, Museum Island, Kurfürstendamm and all the other famous sights.

Instead of choosing a hotel after staying close to the sights, you can instead choose the area that suits you best. So what do you want to experience in the evening, which restaurants do you prefer to eat at – and should there be life in the street, or do you prefer a quieter neighborhood?

THE DIFFERENT AREAS IN BERLIN

In the “middle” of Berlin, around the Tiergarten, and especially in the southern and south-eastern part of the park, you live quietly – and also a bit expensive. Here you will find many of the 5-star hotels, where you can stay really well and within walking distance for a leisurely stroll in the park.

In Kreuzberg, in the southern part of Berlin, is the area where many young people and immigrants live. It is an vibrant, but also raw and noisy district, but well located in relation to most attractions.

Friedrichshain lies in the south-eastern part of Berlin, and here the traces of the former DDR are most clearly seen. The old factories are closed, and instead small, crooked shops, restaurants and nightclubs have sprung up. The area is not pretty like Charlottenburg, but raw and authentic in a very charming way.

Prenzlauer Berg was the neighborhood of the workers. The district was laid out in the late 1800s, and under the DDR, the bohemians and intellectuals moved in. Even today, the bohemians live in Prenzlauer Berg – together with all the tourists. A large part of the apartments have been bought with AirBnb’ing in mind, and you will meet a lot of other tourists. However, this shouldn’t keep you away; Prenzlauer Berg is a beautiful district filled with green parks and restaurants.

This was a bit about the neighborhoods – now it’s time to choose a good hotel in Berlin!
